I will explain what my parents and many others have faced. The stress can cause physical illness, for the parents and loved ones. They feel powerless. The mind is racing wildly, the stress is unexplainable, all your waking hours pass in fear. It is a terrible time, with little light at the end of this tunnel. Your child is dying and you are powerless to help them. I might compare these emotions with the parents that have had their child disappear. I cannot imagine the pain. When a child becomes addicted to drugs or alcohol they become a different person. They become someone that is not your child, mind and soul. You lose them to drugs and alcohol. That is the center of their world. You may have them locked up in some treatment or jail. You may threaten to disown them, because if you don't your whole world starts falling apart. You and your spouse may distance yourselves because of difference of opinion, while trying to help and get order back into your lives. You get phone calls from strangers that want to speak with your child. Sometimes these calls give you great reason to worry. My parents got a call from strangers saying I owed them money and if they did not get it they would kill me. The reason for that call was my idea, to try and get money for drugs. I did that to get drugs. If there were a way I could allow you to experience your child choosing to try drugs or alcohol and fall into addiction I would not. Why? Because people become scarred emotionally for life from less dramatic incidents. Please remember once that child does make the choice to drink or do some drugs the choice to stop can be unreachable. They have the key to stop, you can only try to point them in the proper direction. My parents did everything possible to help me. They could not stop me nor could I understand how critical my situation was. I know first hand once a child uses it can be a point of no return as in my case. Alcohol which is often their first experiment of curiosity, can be a big instigator in leading to other illegal drugs.
Sure alcohol is illegal for kids because of the age factor, but at the same time it is socially accepted. If your child has used and you know it, be careful of your approach.
Try to Remain Calm at all cost or the connection may be fruitless. Remember drug addiction help is just that, help. Do not show anger, do not accuse.
Have this discussion without getting upset or accusing your child of being stupid or blemishing the family name. Be firm but caring with your tone and avoid getting into an argument. Kids are naturally private about their lives, try to find out what’s going on in your child’s life. Don't make it seem they are on trial.
Kindly connect with your teen and find out why they may be making poor choices. Find out if friends or others offered your child drugs. Did they try it out of curiosity, or did they do it for some other reason? That alone will be a signal to your child that you love and care about them. This is your right as a parent, just stay aware of your composure.
I beg all of you out there with young children, please do not ignore preparing and educating your child for this deadly choice. Remember drug addiction help is needed after the fact. Do your best to prepare your child.

Most of my life, drug addiction help was pushed in my face from every direction. Not sure how many times I was forced into drug treatment. Even if I did enter treatment on my own it was for reasons outside of me.
I lived to please, it gave my family and others hope. I had some hope myself for a very short period of time. But it was mostly just a show. I dearly needed the help. Like the old saying,"you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make them drink."
Do you believe if one is taught in a manner that appeals to them their desire to learn is highly increased? I am sure it will not hurt to gain their interest.

What is wrong with finding a way that interest them to sort of understand about drugs and alcohol? Can you come up with an idea?

Drug addiction help is extremely necessary. I have heard of many drug addicts coming clean due to treatment centers. Just one drug addict getting clean and staying clean is not just saving that one drug addict. It could add up to several hundred or more people saved due to the ripple effect one drug addict causes. We just want to keep the children from ever having to go through treatment and causing a ripple effect. We must help them from a very early age to understand fully this one choice. They have to feel and believe the circumstances of the choice, to use drugs or alcohol.Drugs take over and destroy the soul.It has to take place before they are ever faced with that death choice. This is a choice that must ring a definite NO, and fully understand why NO, is one hundred percent necessary.
